HELLER's HOT - WIRE
The proper way to extend the right "GUN CONTROL" STORY FROM HOUSTON, TEXAS Last Thursday night around midnight, a woman from Houston, Texas was arrested, jailed, and charged with manslaughter for shooting a man six times in the back as he was running away with her purse. The following Monday morning, the woman was called in front of the Arraignment Judge, sworn in, and asked to explain her actions. The woman replied, “I was standing at the corner bus stop for about 15 minutes, waiting for the bus to take me home after work. I am a waitress at a local café. I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol, that was in my purse, that was hung over my left shoulder. All of a sudden I was being spun around hard to my left. As I caught my balance, I saw a man running away from me with my purse. I looked down at my right hand and I saw that my fingers were wrapped tightly around my pistol. The next thing I remember is saying out loud, I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and squeezed the trigger of my pistol six times! When asked by the Arraignment Judge, The Woman replied under oath, The woman was acquitted of all charges. Now that's Gun Control . . . with Training !

INCREDIBLE !!
The Washington Times actually gives the HELLER TEAM credit for the
instant drop in crime in DC and nationwide after the 6/26/08 decision !!
"More guns in law-abiding hands mean less crime. The District of Columbia proves the point."
Reading most press accounts, one would be forgiven for thinking Armageddon had arrived after the Supreme Court struck down the District's handgun ban in 2008. Predictions sprung forth from all directions that allowing more citizens to own guns and not forcing them to keep them locked up was going to threaten public safety. According to D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, more guns in homes would cause more violent crime.
This has never been the case. Local politicians enthusiastically embraced the 1977 handgun ban predicting it would make Washington a safe place by dramatically reducing murder rates. But they were as wrong three decades ago as they are now.
A telling story is illustrated by the murder numbers since the handgun ban and gun-lock bans were struck down. Between 2008 and 2009, the FBI's preliminary numbers indicate that murders fell nationally by 10 percent and by about 8 percent in cities that have between 500,000 and 999,999 people. Washington's population is about 590,000. During that same period of time, murders in the District fell by an astounding 25 percent, dropping from 186 to 140. The city only started allowing its citizens to own handguns for defense again in late 2008.
Few who lived in Washington during the 1970s can forget the upswing in crime that started right after the ban was originally passed. In the five years before the 1977 ban, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 murders per 100,000. In the five years after the gun ban went into effect, the murder rate rose back up to 35. One fact is particularly hard to ignore: D.C.'s murder rate fluctuated after 1976 but only once fell below what it was in 1976 before the ban. That aberration happened years later, in 1985.
This correlation between the D.C. gun ban and diminished safety was not a coincidence. Look at the Windy City. Immediately after Chicago banned handguns in 1982, the murder rate, which had been falling almost continually for a decade, started to rise. Chicago's murder rate rose relative to other large cities as well. The phenomenon of higher murder rates after gun bans are passed is not just limited to the United States. Every single time a country has passed a gun ban, its murder rate soared.
The choice Americans face isn't between freedom or safety. Washington's experience with gun bans shows once again that Americans will either be free and safe or unfree and unsafe. Letting people protect themselves is the responsible approach. It's important the Supreme Court remember these facts in March when it hears the case over Chicago's handgun ban."

GREAT News for Today:
The Ninth Circuit Court today ruled that the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the individual Second Amendment right that was found to exist in DC v. Heller.
The Ninth Ciruit concluded that an individual right to firearms possession was deeply rooted in our national hsitory and tradition; thus, the Second Amendment guarantee applies to the states.
Second, the right to bear arms is a protection against the possibility that even our own govt could degenerate into tyranny, and though this may seem unlikely, this possibility should be guarded against with individual diligence.

DC City Council Hearing,
Special Committee on Statehood and Self-Determination
The Status and Implications of the DC House Voting Rights Act and the Gun Amendment
Tuesday, April 07, 2009 6:30 PM
John A. Wilson Building, Room 412
I am DC Citizen Dick Heller & I received such short notice that I have no prepared, emotional, nor anti-Constititutional speech prepared. I did, however, make some notes from what I have heard this evening.
Council members have repeatedly used phrases like "our public safety [gun] laws, protect our people, our protections, & safety." All one has to do is look at the bullet holes in my house on Capitol Hill and the question begs to be asked, "Is this what you call a safe city ?"
Then when the drug trade moved in to the government welfare project across the street from my house, instead of disarming the criminals, in their brilliance, the City Council disarmed the law-abiding taxpayers so we would be defenseless and at their mercy if the bad guys decided to come after us for some reason.
Is this what you call a safe city ?
Rosa Parks has been a heroine of mine for a long time. "I'm tired, I paid my dime, & I want my rightful place on the bus." Well, I was living in fear for 20 years, I'm an American citizen with Second Amendment Rights, and I wanted my rightful place as a citizen, and that is why we took our cause all the way to the Supreme Court.
For further evidence of your "safe city", Senator Ensign presented a chart in a recent congressional hearing that showed the results of your so-called public safety [gun control] laws. The FBI crime figures in it shows the murder rate of DC to be on average from FOUR to TEN times GREATER than than the nearest 48 comparable sized cities. Is this your version of a safe city -- as the mayor continues to senselessly advocate for the right to pass public [un]safety gun control laws to keep our city "safe" ? THIS level of nonsense-passing-as-intelligent-law is odiously offensive [and represents abject lying]. With the rightfully earned label of Murder Capital of America, is this what you consider to be a safe city ?
I keep hearing the phrase "gun deal" as it was attached to the House DC Voting Rights Act. The phrase "Gun Freedom" should be the phrase used because, only when we can defend our lives & liberty against bad guys can we be full-fledged citizens of a Free country and, as FBI Crime stats show, a Safer City !
The govt argument of "we have police to 'protect' you" is laughable in light of the Warren vs. DC when . . . "DC's highest court ruled that the police do not have a legal responsibility to provide personal protection to individuals, and absolved the police and the city of any liability." . . . in a 14 hour multiple rape of three DC women. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia)
If a visitor with a legal mind visited DC it would not be very long before they determined they were not in the US as the city simply ignores multiple elements of the US Constitution, Article I, violates the First Amendment, totally ignored & continues to fight the Second Amendment, and tries to pretend Article V does not exist. They would determine that they were not part of an America that believes in the rule of law and the Constitution but in a principality surrounded by the USA, with lower status than that of a colony and which is ruled by whim, instead of by law.
I kept hearing council members referring to the hipocracy of what congress is doing to the DC House Voting Rights Act with the attachment of the Gun Amendment. Let me draw a picture of what the vilest hipocracy of legislation is in America -- It is the unamious DC Council vote to impose additional draconian gun control laws to continue fighting against the Supreme Court's Second Amendment decision that Gun Freedom is an individual right -- all for the sake of what your constitutional professor councilmember called the "harmony" of a united front. Constitution be damned; Supreme Court be damned; It's called govt-by-WHIM, not by law.
Of course equal & serious representation in the Congress is not warranted. Fortunately, the citizens of the U.S. have the oversight of the more rational minds of the Congress.

NEW YORK – As the Obama administration attempts to push through Congress a nearly $1 trillion deficit spending plan . . . a rebellion against the growing dominance of federal control is beginning to spread at the state level.

"Today's vote puts the District at the forefront of using regulation to reduce gun violence, rather than the simpler, prior approach of hoping that an outright ban will be effective," said D.C. Council member Phil Mendelson. (WTOP news + Washington Post Dec 3, 08)
RESPONSE:
12/16/08
At today's DC city council meeting, the govt's position changed again. They were very concerned about Constitutional challenges as they implemented safety regulations (a good direction), eliminated the annual ownership certifications (verify your gun was not stolen), but the ballistics check & future shell-casing micro-stamping are back in today's amendment.
Additionally, The legislation still bans "assault Weapons" (ugly guns), magazines that are capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and handguns not on the California DOJ "Roster of Certified Pistols".
The above results are labeled as a "Good Balance," (Washington Times 12/17/08) as if Rights are elements of the Constitution that are nogotiable ! It appears the council members do not yet fully understand that their Primary Mission is to protect our Civil Liberties.
Council quotes:
The phrases of "DC has the most 'Progressive' gun laws in the country," and "These Individual Freedoms ' have been thrust upon us by the Supreme Court '," were used at today's Council meeting. Obviously, we are NOT making much progress in the spirit & letter of the law on this 2nd Amendment struggle.
12/15/08
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the D.C. City Council hears the newest preliminary regulations for law-abiding residents registering their handguns.
Forgeting one of these paper events would convert a good citizen into a person with a "firearms violation" record which would then unduly follow & probably taint them as a violent person. Subsequent listings in hidden govt data bases would certainly affect employment, airline travel, and inclusion in social organizations.
Criminals out of prison do not have this level of intrusion into their lives. This level of harassment & entrapment for the good guys accomplishes absolutely NOTHING to lower crime or reduce gun violence.
The "simpler, prior approach of hoping that an outright ban will be effective," to quote the councilman, shows that the city council has been steered or governing by whim, rather than by the solidly proven policy, like Project Exile, of other cities. It is this feel-good whim thinking that earned DC the title of "Murder Capital of America."
Here is an alternate plan. Shackle multiple-offense criminals with an ankle bracelet that tracks them in ten minute intervals. Spare gun owners this cruel & unusual reporting punishment for simply being the good guys that we are.
We need to eliminate the periodic registration of the law abiding gun owners
as if they were criminals.
